Volvo Cars India has launched its flagship electric SUV, the EX90, in India at a starting price of ₹1.26 crore (ex-showroom). The all-electric luxury SUV cars sits at the top of Volvo’s passenger vehicle range and brings the Swedish brand’s latest electric vehicle technology, premium cabin equipment and advanced safety systems to the Indian market.
Built on Volvo’s dedicated SPA2 electric vehicle platform, the EX90 combines three-row seating with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain. It is designed for buyers seeking a spacious luxury SUV with strong performance, long-distance capability and a comprehensive range of driver-assistance features.
The Volvo EX90 has been launched at ₹1.26 crore, ex-showroom. It is positioned above the petrol-powered Volvo XC90 and targets customers looking for a fully electric alternative in the premium SUV segment.
The EX90 is offered in a highly equipped Ultra specification for India. Its combination of luxury, performance and advanced technology places it among the most expensive electric SUVs available in the country.
The India-spec Volvo EX90 uses a 106kWh battery pack paired with two electric motors and an all-wheel-drive system. The setup produces a combined output of 456hp and 670Nm of torque.
According to the claimed performance figures, the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in approximately 5.5 seconds. Its top speed is electronically limited to 180kmph, in line with Volvo’s focus on safety.
Volvo claims a driving range of up to 625km on the WLTP cycle. Actual range may vary depending on traffic, road conditions, driving style, weather and the use of climate control.
The EX90 also supports high-speed DC charging through its 800V electrical architecture. With a compatible high-output charger, the battery can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in around 22–23 minutes under suitable conditions. Charging speed will depend on the charger, battery temperature and other operating conditions.
The Volvo EX90 follows the brand’s minimalist Scandinavian design approach. Its front end features a largely closed-off fascia, distinctive pixel-style LED headlamps and T-shaped lighting signatures. The clean body surfaces and restrained detailing give the SUV a modern appearance without relying on excessive chrome.
The side profile features flush-style door handles, a long wheelbase and large alloy wheels. At the rear, vertically arranged lighting elements create a distinctive appearance while maintaining the simple design language associated with Volvo’s larger SUVs.
The EX90 has a wheelbase of 2,985mm and 21-inch alloy wheels as standard. Its adaptive air suspension offers a ground clearance of approximately 210mm in its standard setting, which can be raised to around 250mm when required.
Inside, the Volvo EX90 offers a premium cabin with a six-seat layout for the Indian market. The second row features individual captain seats, while the third row provides additional seating for passengers.
The dashboard is dominated by a large 14.5-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system, accompanied by a 9-inch digital driver display. The infotainment system uses Google-based software and supports connected-car functions.
Other notable features include Nappa leather upholstery, brushed aluminium and open-pore wood finishes, four-zone climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad and a premium Bowers & Wilkins audio system with 25 speakers.
The SUV offers 324 litres of boot space with all three rows in use. Folding the third row increases the luggage capacity to 690 litres. An additional 46-litre front storage compartment, commonly called a frunk, provides space for smaller items.
Safety remains a central part of the Volvo EX90’s appeal. The SUV comes equipped with nine airbags and an advanced driver-assistance system supported by cameras, radar sensors and ultrasonic sensors.
Key safety and convenience technologies include a 360-degree camera, adaptive driver-assistance functions, auto-parking assistance, door-opening alerts and post-impact braking. The vehicle’s sensor and computing systems are designed to monitor its surroundings and support the driver in different situations.
As with other driver-assistance systems, these technologies are intended to assist rather than replace the driver’s attention and control.
The Volvo EX90 competes in the premium electric SUV segment against models such as the Kia EV9 and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV. Its ₹1.26 crore starting price positions it as an alternative for buyers considering a large, luxury-focused electric vehicle.
While the Kia EV9 emphasises spacious family-oriented electric mobility, the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV focuses on luxury and comfort. The Volvo EX90 differentiates itself through its Scandinavian styling, advanced safety technology, three-row layout and dual-motor performance.
